People in the San Francisco Bay Area!! Want to get tattooed by me (Melanie)??
Now’s your chance!! I’ll be tattooing at Diving Swallow in Oakland for four days in January, and I still have some appointments available! Email me: melaniecatherine@gmail.com if you’re interested!
The days I have available are January 10 and 15.
See you in the sunshine!
Melanie did the outline (4-5 hours!!) for Melissa’s lace coverup! It was SO awesome having Melissa do a guest spot at Icon!!! Melissa did a gorgeous tattoo on Melanie’s back while she was here; we’ll post pictures when it’s done being itchy and peely.
Melissa will be back soon (hopefully) to get her lace finished and do some more beautiful tattoos!
Melanie started work on this gorgeous Mucha-style monarch and milkweed tattoo. Love love love.
It’s official! We have Seaworthy at Icon. We are so so SO excited about this!! All these stunningly beautiful pieces are handmade by Marisa Howard here in Portland, OR. Pictured above are a few of the pieces we just got in, but we have much more (and hope to get even more very very soon!) come check them out!
We are geeking out on Edwardian illustrator Harry Clarke!
Loooooooove!
Lovely tiger and flowers tattoo by Lisa!
Grrrrr!
Greek cover-up, progress pictures.
The first picture is a before picture (hopefully that’s pretty obvious), so that you can see what we’re transforming it from!
I’ve been documenting all the stages of this tattoo because I thought it would be nice for y’all to see how the process of a cover-up works. We laid in a whole bunch of black last time; now the old tattoo is almost gone! Next time we’ll finish out the remaining linework. If you’re curious, you can look back through our old posts and find the first couple posts about this project. At the very end I’ll do a cumulative post with pictures from each stage.
Cover-ups are fun and challenging like puzzles. This one is going to be awesome. I was a little nervous going into it because the original was giant, but it’s already all but eradicated! This is a really, really fun tattoo.

Work in progress on Jamie’s lovely leg tattoo! This tattoo is so freaking sexy!
Jamie was a champ for six hours of color and shading. Peacock feather and grey lace are healed; all other color and shading is new.
